It’s that time of the year again when we get to see brilliant Spanish films this side of the world. So clear up your schedule and stock up on popcorn as Instituto Cervantes de Manila presents Película 2014: The 13th Manila Spanish Film Festival. The festival will run from October 9 to 19, 2014 at Greenbelt 3 Cinemas in Makati City, and later in Baguio, Iloilo, Zamboanga and Davao.
I learned from Ms. Vien Cortes, Regional Market Analyst of the Spain Tourism Board, that the film “Vivir es Facil con los Ojos Cerrados” (Living is Easy with Eyes Closed) will open the festival on October 9 . The brilliant film, directed by David Trueba, was inspired by the lyrics of the famous Beatles song, “Strawberry Fields Forever”. Vien adds:
“This film won 6 awards in the recent Goya Film Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Script, Best Actor, Best New Actress, and Best Music. Director Trueba will be in the Cinema 2 of Greenbelt 3 to present his Masterpiece at 8PM. Please do not fail to watch this and be part of the Spanish Film Festival this year in Manila.”
I’ve seen the film’s trailer and it looks very promising! No wonder it has been selected by Spain’s Film Academy as the Spanish entry for Best Foreign Language Film at next year’s Oscars!
