Mitsukoshi Mall in BGC is like a giant present for those who have been missing Japan but have not had the chance to travel there yet.
The four-story mall, which opened its doors last November 18, houses some iconic Japanese retail shops. And while it still has a lot of spaces to fill, we’re sure Japanophiles will be very happy with what they can already find in the first Japanese (inspired) mall in the country. Here’s a peek!
Fully Booked x Kinokuniya
I’m sure this place is heaven for Manga and Japanese literature fans. I am not one, myself, but just looking at the titles made my head spin!
Mitsukoshi Fresh Grocery
One of the things we miss about Japan is the fresh food section of grocery stores, particularly the ones that sell sushi and sashimi. These are actually cheap alternatives to the expensive restaurant fares, especially for people on a budget. The Mitsukoshi Fresh Grocery at the basement offers the same variety. And a lot more! There’s also a deli if you’re looking for hot Japanese food. Hmmm, I wonder if they go on sale at 6pm, too. 😉
UCC Coffee Lifestyle and Key Coffee
Craving a delicious cup of freshly brewed Japanese coffee? Head straight to Key Coffee on the ground floor or UCC Coffee in the basement where you can choose from machine or hand-crafted brews.
Itadaki Food Court
The food court offers an array of Japanese chain restaurants. We saw Nadai Fujisoba which specializes in Soba Noodles and Katsudon, CURRY HOUSE CoCo Ichibanya, which offers meat, vegetables, and seafood toppings with curry sauce, and Mitsuyado Sei-Men, a ramen house that allows you to customize your own ramen. A word of warning, though: lunch time is quite busy so you might want to arrive early to avoid the crowd. If you want a more formal dining experience, go to Mendokoro Ramenba on the ground floor.
These are just some of the shops we were able to visit. We’re sure many more will open soon, especially during the holiday season.
Mitsukoshi Mall is located at 8th Ave. corner 36th St., Grand Central Park, North BGC, Taguig City. Open daily from 10 am to 11 pm.
