Scaling La Scala Sancta
Perhaps one of the highlights of my trip to Europe last year was the unexpected, albeit very profound visit to La Scala Sancta or The Holy Stairs in Rome. My group had no scheduled tour that afternoon so we had time to go sightseeing around Rome. We ended up at La Scala Sancta, located in a building that holds part of the old Lateran Palace or Palazzo Laterano (an ancient palace of the Roman Empire which eventually became the Papal Residence for about ten centuries). MY ALDO ROSSI STOVETOP ESPRESSO MAKER Hubby and I were on our way home from a daytrip in Dapitan, when a sign that said “Japan Surplus” beckoned us to make a U-turn and check out a nondescript warehouse along Araneta Avenue. A quick scan at the entrance revealed what the place really was… a Japan Surplus warehouse. The place was overflowing with old bicycles, television sets, sofas, trolleys, gym equipment, hi-fi stereos and a mishmash of household items from the 80s and the 90s. Trust me. On the Road… day 15, at a gas station, an hour away from Paris “Can I offer you coffee?” A, our Portuguese driver, asks me good-naturedly.It’s been a long day and nobody deserves these much-needed gas station breaks more than him. He’s been driving his bus for a couple of hours now and had to take his mandatory fifteen-minute break, along with the rest of the group of course. “Only if it’s real!”I quip, eyeing the patisserie and coffee counter at the far left corner of the elaborately designed gas station.
