The End of My e-Passport Saga

by PinayTravelleron June 1, 2010June 1, 20102 Comments on The End of My e-Passport Saga

I’m happy to report that I finally received my new passport two days ago! And although my photo looks like a mugshot of a hardened criminal or an escapee from Shutter Island, at least now I can breathe a sigh of relief! Finally, the KL trip next week is set. A word of caution, by …

e-Passport Hell

“Wow, that was hell!” I overheard a girl say as I was freshening up in the restroom.  We just came from a  5-hour ordeal inside the DFA building– she a few minutes ahead of me– so I could certainly relate to what she said. Done properly using DFA’s new system, passport processing shouldn’t really take …

How to get your e-Passport

by PinayTravellerupdated on February 1, 2013May 6, 201016 Comments on How to get your e-Passport

Hubby and I have a scheduled trip to Malaysia next month.  I already knew at the beginning of the year that I needed to renew my passport months before it expires in October.  Passport renewal requires personal appearance at the DFA and since March and April were quite hectic months, I decided that May would …

  • Was cleaning my hard drives and saw this photo among the thousands I’ve accumulated over the past couple of years. This is me trying to pose for a picture somewhere in Jiufen in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Just to clarify, I was there first! When this pandemic is over, one thing is for sure—people will be more respectful of personal spaces. 😂

  • Day ___.

I spent a good 3 minutes staring at how the breeze made the curtains dance, creating an impromptu shadow play right before my eyes. The air has been heavy with rain that wouldn’t fall. The humidity is enough to drive me insane. This afternoon’s weather report said a storm is coming to our corner of the world, threatening downpours and gusty winds. To be honest, I welcome the thought. The sound of rain and thunderstorms usually lull me to sleep.

  • Day 50ish.
I haven’t been taking photos of myself lately, not even with my family. But I wanted to see what I look like during this quarantine. So here I am.

Like Rapunzel’s, my hair seems to grow an inch each day! So I’ve kept it in a bun the past 2 months. I’ve also had several health issues—shortness of breath and hives among them. The constant thought of getting sick and ending up in hospital robbed me of sleep for several weeks. The anxiety overshadowed my usual sense of optimism. And that in itself was very crippling. For days images of lying alone on a hospital bed haunted me. I’d wake up in the middle of the night, unable to pacify the unsteady beating of my heart. It felt like I was drowning.

I had to do something. I had to keep my mind distracted!

So I took out my camera and started taking photos of everything. Better to fill my mind with images that give comfort rather than cause fear, images of hope rather than despair.

Eventually, I eased out of my crippling mental confinement. I finally consulted doctors to address my health issues. No, my hives were not symptoms of COVID-19 but were triggered by anxiety. The shortness of breath was caused by anemia. I was prescribed medication that eventually made me feel better. And little by little, I healed from within.

So here I am. On day 50ish, I am okay.
And I can’t wait for the story of the new world to begin.
