Budget Accommodation in Paris: Maison d’Accueil de l’Assomption

If you’re looking for budget accommodation in Paris, consider staying with nuns! 🙂   I highly recommend the Maison d’Accueil de l’Assomption, the Motherhouse of the Assumption Sisters. This was where we checked in when we were in Paris a few months back.  The  hostel is actually a retreat house operated by the Assumption Sisters, a Catholic religious order founded in 1839 in France by St. Marie Eugenie of Jesus. But it’s also open to the public.  Room rates include breakfast consisting of a selection of hot beverages (coffee, tea, milk), fresh juice,  bread with butter and jam, cereal, and fruits.

The rooms are quite comfy. Here’s mine:

A single room with shower and toilet costs 61 euros a night. But if you don’t mind sharing a bathroom,  you can have a single room for 46 euros a night.

The place is quiet of course which is great especially if you just want to chill out at the end of the day. But there’s free WI-FI so you’re not totally cut off from the rest of the world. Just ask for the password at the front desk. The sister at the reception can also call a cab for you should you need one. And they can hold your luggage for a few hours after check out if you still want to go around the city before your flight.

//Here’s the view from my window.  Isn’t it wonderful?

Overall, I had a wonderful stay at  the Maison d’Accueil de l’Assomption.  It may not be  in the center of Paris but it is very accessible (it is located in a very quiet neighborhood in the 16th arrondissement). It’s also within walking distance from the Seine and the Tour Eiffel but far enough from the busy, crowded areas.
