Budget Accommodation in Paris: Maison d’Accueil de l’Assomption (2026 Guide)

I highly recommend the Maison d’Accueil de l’Assomption, the Motherhouse of the Assumption Sisters. This was where we checked in when we were in Paris a few months back.  

What is Maison d’Accueil de l’Assomption?

Maison d’Accueil de l’Assomption is a peaceful hospitality center run by the Religious of the Assumption, a Catholic congregation founded in 1839 by St. Marie Eugene of Jesus. Located in a quiet residential district of Paris, it offers around 47 simple, clean rooms for visitors, students, and pilgrims from all over the world. While run by a religious order, it welcomes travelers of all backgrounds looking for a calm place to rest.

Prices in Paris have gone up over the years, but staying here is still an incredible bargain compared to standard Parisian hotels. Plus, a simple continental breakfast (coffee, tea, bread, butter, and jam) is included in the price!

What’s Included?

• Continental Breakfast: Served daily in the dining hall (typically coffee, tea, bread, butter, and jam).
• Wi-Fi: Free Internet access throughout the main building and annexes.
• Linens & Towels: Bed sheets and towels are provided for your stay.

The rooms are quite comfy. Here’s mine:

The place is quiet of course which is great especially if you just want to chill out at the end of the day. But there’s free WI-FI so you’re not totally cut off from the rest of the world. Just ask for the password at the front desk. The sister at the reception can also call a cab for you should you need one. And they can hold your luggage for a few hours after check out if you still want to go around the city before your flight.

Important Things to Know Before Booking

• Annual Closure: Take note that the retreat house closes completely during the entire month of August. If you are planning a trip then, you’ll need to look for alternative lodging!
• Curfew & Security: Because it is an active religious community, there is an evening lock-up/curfew (around 11:00 PM), so it’s best for quiet travelers rather than late-night partygoers.
• The Garden: One of my favorite parts is the beautiful, quiet garden courtyard—a wonderful, peaceful sanctuary to rest after a long day of sightseeing in busy Paris.

Overall, I had a wonderful stay at  the Maison d’Accueil de l’Assomption.  It may not be  in the center of Paris but it is very accessible. It is located in the 16th Arrondissement (at 17, rue de l’Assomption, 75016 Paris), which is a very quiet, safe, and upscale residential neighborhood. It is just a short 3- to 5-minute walk to the Ranelagh Metro Station (Line 9), making it super easy to get to major Paris sights like Trocadéro and the Eiffel Tower.
