The Hubby and I miss our out-of-the-country (OOTC) trips. As you probably know, we have been travelling together for as long as we have known each other (which is about 13 years and counting). If we have the budget and the time, we try to celebrate our wedding anniversary or birthdays abroad. But this year, things seem to have gone local. Since January, we have travelled out of town almost every month: to Boracay and my hometown in Aklan for the Holy Week in March…
Bataan for a weekend jaunt with the family in April…
and Kalinga and Baguio to celebrate our anniversary in May.
We even went on a short roadtrip to Antipolo to celebrate my birthday in June.
But what we were expecting to be our annual OOTC trip for the year—the Camino de Santiago walk in July—didn’t pan out. I ended up going to Spain to cover a press trip alone.
Needless to say, our collective feet are itching to go! We miss the adventure and the chance to be together on our own, in a strange place where we can’t understand anybody and where we can test each other’s patience.:)
As you know, travelling as a couple tends to be expensive. So we’ve been waiting for airline seat sales to at least save on airfare. But so far, zilch. I’ve tried booking during the Piso sale of CEBUPac but to no avail; the PISO seats are either taken or the remaining seats, too expensive. At the rate I’m going with the booking, I think we’ll have more luck getting tickets by joining a contest. One contest, in particular, looks very promising.
For a minimum purchase of Php500 in any participating Ayala Malls nationwide, one will earn a chance to win a free trip for 2 to top local destinations: Cebu, Davao, Cebu, and Palawan and international destinations: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
Now we’ve been to most ASEAN countries individually, but have only been to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia as a couple.
It would be great to see Hong Kong together, especially the off-the-beaten-track fishing village of Cheung Chau Island…
attend a cooking class in Asian Food Channel Headquarters in Singapore…
or simply marvel at the art, culture and street fashion of Japan!

I hope we can have a repeat of how we organized our Indonesia trip last year and saved almost 30,000! That trip was epic. But whatever happens, I really hope we’ll be able to take off, soon. Wish us luck!
